Ukrainian farmers sow spring grain, leguminous crops on 42% of planned area

In particular, wheat was sown on an area of 63,000 ha, or 36% of the target; spring barley on 684,000 ha (44%), oats on 45,000 ha (23%); and peas on 171,000 ha (49%), the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry’s press service said on March 25.

Mineral fertilizers were added on 6.9 million ha under winter grain crops, or 91% of the target, it said.

In particular, as of March 25, mineral fertilizers were added on 5.9 million ha under winter wheat (91% of the target), 103,000 ha under winter rye (89%), 963,000 ha under winter barley (96%), and 1.24 million ha under winter rapeseed (96%).

As UNIAN reported early, Ukraine started planting early spring grain and leguminous crops on March 4, according to the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry.

In 2018, Ukraine harvested a record high yield of grain, having threshed 70.1 million tonnes.
